My name is Richard Chatfield and I have 10 years (+) of experience being
a designer and graphic artist. I have a B.S. degree in Digital
Entertainment and Game Design and I am a part time college instructor teaching
game level design at ITT-Technical Institute in Southern California. I
have 4 years experience working in development team environments and twice
that working as a freelance agent for clients. In all my years as a designer
and graphic artist, I have always met and surpassed the expectations of
my employers and clients, which is something I take a lot of personal pride
in. I attribute this not only to my technical skills but also to my own
professional work ethic and the approach or philosophy I take towards being
a professional designer and graphic artist.
Being a professional designer and graphic artist in today's business world
requires much more than having the ability to work the various multimedia
programs which are available. Of course having strong skills in these programs
are a requirement in order to create what is needed, but having these skills
alone falls short of being able to fulfill the various roles that is required
of a professional designer. A designer needs to have the ability to understand
the concept or vision being presented to them by the client/employer and
have the skill to be able to create and produce that vision with technical
and creative know-how.
Art and design in general can be very subjective and is often about a person's own individual taste and preferences. In the
world of a professional designer, where deadlines need to be met, the professional designer must be able to adapt fluently from
project to project applying their design skills and abilities to meet the requirements of the project at hand. In one moment they may
be expected to create the look of a high-end corporate website to convey the right image for a company, while the next they may be
required to create the coolest gaming site for the latest console game that has just been released.
