Flash Design

Introduction - Flash Design

One of the most useful programs I have used over the years is Flash. Formerly created and owned by Macromedia and now by Adobe. These two companies are two of the main powerhouses when it comes to multimedia software and development.

Because Flash is so versatile, one can do and accomplish many things. I have used Flash to create websites, business presentations, media kits, useful software applications, and of course games. Flash can create and deliver exciting visual animations and audio experiences with low bandwidth. With the emerging AS3 object oriented programming structure, flash will no doubt play a large role in future development of websites and online software applications.

Be sure to check out the 3D Design page on my website as I show how flash can be used with 3D application software such as making TV commercial for wireless cell phone companies.

Dragon Knight - The Quest Begins

Dragon Knight (DK) is an entire grid based world designed in flash that you as a character can explore by going on quests and fighting dragons and other monsters with your sword and magic. What makes DK unique is the heavy focus on the arcade action of play. This is a real-time "Arcade Game" with RPG elements, puzzles, and mini games included to keep game play fun and exciting. DK is scheduled to be publicly released on NewGrounds 02/01/08.

Dragon Knight - The Quest Begins

The Quest Begins is the name for the first episode in what I hope will be a continuing series of 6 or 7 more episodes yet to come. I have been developing DK for for nearly 6 months as a self initiated project. It is a huge undertaking to take on a project like this. With the exception of the great music contributed to the project by Herbert T. Hill and the hero character art by Joel Carlo, I have done everything else from the storyline; to action scripting, game architecture, graphic design, GUI design, creature animations...well you get the idea. Here is a snapshot list of what is in the 1st episode

Statue of Liberty Flash Tour

I was hired by the owner of StatueofLiberty.net to develop some flash interactive content and some flash games for their website that would help people learn about the Statue of Liberty and enjoy their visit at the website. I developed two games for their activity center: “The Statue of Liberty Trivia Challenge” and the “Statue of Liberty Memory Game”. The owner was pleased with my work and asked if I would create a interactive flash Statue of Liberty Tour(see below).

CombustionDown.com

CombustionDown Model Gallery

As part of a development team for a UT2004 game mod called combustion down, among other things I did for the team I also built the www.combustiondown.com website. This flash piece being featured here was a nice little player interface that I designed to go with the look and feel of the site. When viewing the player, licking the numbers on the right will bring up small movie animations of 3D models we built for the bridge assault and oil rig levels for the mod.

Verizon Authorized Dealer Store Planner - Flash Application

Verizon Store Planner

I was hired as a free agent to come up with an application tool that would allow the company personnel an easy way to set and design a store layout for a Verizon retail wireless cell phone store. The company was expanding into new territories and they needed a fast and easy way to design the layout of a store based on square footage and also products from the Verizon PDF Store catalog. I took Verizon's PDF catalog and created icons of each them. I set up a grid floor with each grid square equaling 1 square foot. The icons were built to width and length so that visually you could see how items would layout in the store. By dragging and dropping items below up into the grey area, it will automatically calculate the cost of the item keeping a running total. By clicking the Make Notes Button, a panel will appear from the bottom with a list of the items and which ones have been selected and their quantity. At the end you can do a print screen and you now have a quick blueprint of a store layout with a cost assessment. You can even put in the cost of carpeting and it will calculate the cost base off the square footage of the store set.
